Nasal polyp enlargement occurs when the mucosal tissues lining the inside of the nasal cavity swell or grow excessively. Nasal polyps normally function to humidify, warm, and filter the air entering the nasal cavity. However, when enlarged, they narrow the nasal passages and make breathing difficult.
Nasal polyp enlargement is commonly caused by chronic allergies, sinusitis, or hormonal changes. Enlarged nasal polyps not only obstruct breathing but may also lead to additional problems such as sleep disturbances, headaches, and loss of sense of smell.
This condition is frequently seen in both adults and children. In particular, patients experiencing nasal blockage and snoring during sleep often have nasal polyp enlargement as a significant underlying cause.
