Sperm Selection Method

In IVF treatment, sperm selection is a critical step for successful fertilization and embryo formation. Sperm selection involves evaluating the motility, morphology (shape), and quality of sperm to choose the best sperm cells. This increases the chance of creating a healthy embryo and improves success rates.

Sperm selection can be done using various methods:

• Selecting Sperm: Sperms are examined under a microscope in laboratory conditions, and the healthiest and most motile ones are chosen.
• ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection): In this method, a sperm is directly injected into an egg.
• PICSI (Physiological Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection): In this method, sperms interact with a special dish containing the egg, and the best sperm cells are selected.
• MACS (Magnetic-Activated Cell Sorting): In this method, selection is made based on specific proteins on the sperm surface.
• IMSI - New Technology Sperm Selection: This sperm selection technique uses an advanced microscope with higher resolution and magnification to examine the morphology (shape and structure) of sperm cells, allowing the selection of the best sperms.

The sperm selection process is carried out by experts in the IVF laboratory. The sperm count, motility, and morphology are evaluated. The best sperm cells are selected for fertilization.

In some cases, genetic tests may also be performed during sperm selection. These tests are especially done to evaluate whether the male is a carrier of genetic diseases or to assess the risk of hereditary disorders.

Sperm selection can increase the success rates of in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. Using healthy and motile sperm cells increases the chance of fertilization and results in healthier embryos.
