Surgical Areas of Interest

n IVF treatment processes, we as Obstetrics and Gynecology specialists (gynecologists) tend to use surgical methods both diagnostically and in some treatment stages rather than performing direct surgical intervention. These procedures are important both for determining female and male infertility causes and for the preparation period of IVF treatment.

Some surgical and diagnostic procedures we can perform in this process are:

Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is an X-ray imaging used to evaluate the condition of the uterus and fallopian tubes. HSG is generally performed by a gynecologist. It is used to check whether the tubes are open before starting IVF treatment.

Hysteroscopy is a method used to examine the inside of the uterus. It can be done for the diagnosis and treatment of issues such as polyps, fibroids, or adhesions in the uterus. It is used before IVF to evaluate if the uterine cavity is suitable and to treat problems if necessary.

Laparoscopy is a surgical method used to examine the inside of the abdomen and pelvic organs (uterus, ovaries, tubes). It can be used for the diagnosis and treatment of conditions like endometriosis, tubal blockage, adhesions. The aim is to resolve these problems before IVF.

Egg Retrieval (Ovum Pick-Up - OPU) is a procedure performed during IVF treatment to collect mature eggs after ovarian stimulation. Under ultrasound guidance, eggs are aspirated from ovarian follicles through a thin needle inserted vaginally. This procedure is performed by gynecologists.

Specialized IVF Procedures

The specialized IVF treatments we offer in our clinic include advanced techniques and methods applied during the IVF process to meet the specific needs of some couples. These treatments generally differ from standard IVF procedures and focus on increasing the success rate or solving particular infertility problems.

ICSI is a method where a single sperm is directly injected into the egg cell. It is especially used in cases of male factor infertility (low sperm count, motility, or morphology).

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis/Screening involves examining embryos for genetic or chromosomal abnormalities. PGT-M is used to screen for single-gene diseases (e.g., cystic fibrosis), while PGT-A screens for chromosomal abnormalities (e.g., Down syndrome). This method helps select healthy embryos, increasing the chances of a healthy baby for couples with recurrent IVF failures or genetic disease carriers.

Assisted hatching is the thinning or opening of the embryo’s outer layer (zona pellucida). It aims to help the embryo implant more easily in the uterus.

Frozen Embryo Transfer is the transfer of previously created and frozen embryos after thawing into the uterus.

Fresh embryo transfer involves transferring embryos created in the same cycle after egg retrieval.

Culture systems in IVF are different systems aimed at improving embryo development (e.g., time-lapse incubators, microfluidic systems).

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): IUI is the placement of washed and concentrated sperm from the partner into the uterus after ovulation induction treatment.
