Electrosurgical ablation, also known in medical terms as endometrial ablation, is based on the principle of destroying the endometrial layer that lines the inside of the uterus using high-frequency electrical energy. The destruction of the endometrium provides a permanent reduction in excessive bleeding during menstrual periods.
This procedure, performed through the uterus, is usually carried out with the help of a thin camera called a hysteroscope. The camera allows direct observation of the inside of the uterus, and energy is delivered through an electrode to remove the endometrial tissue.
This method is a safe and effective alternative for women who do not respond to medical treatment or wish to avoid larger surgical procedures such as hysterectomy.
