Who is Prof. Dr. Nadir Barındık?

Prof. Dr. Nadir Barındık is a respected physician distinguished by his deep knowledge and experience in cardiology. Throughout his career, he has made significant contributions both in military medicine and academia.

Prof. Dr. Barındık was born in 1955 in Çiftlik Village, Sungurlu region of Turkey. His medical journey began between 1972 and 1978 at Erzurum Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine, where he earned the title of general practitioner.

To develop his knowledge and skills in military medicine, he undertook training and internships at İzmir Military Medical School and GATA Hospital. In 1986, he completed his specialization in Internal Medicine at GATA and became an internal medicine specialist. Subsequently, he completed his cardiology specialization at GATA Cardiology Clinic and was appointed as a cardiology specialist in 1988.

Contributing significantly to his academic career, Prof. Dr. Barındık earned the title of associate professor in 1996, followed by a professorship at Süleyman Demirel University in 2008.

Prof. Dr. Barındık’s professional career has been enriched by experience gained at various medical institutions. He undertook important responsibilities as the head of cardiology intensive care at GATA. Currently, he continues to serve patients as a cardiology specialist at A Life Health Group – Ankara Hospital.

Interventional Cardiology Areas of Interest

 

Coronary Angiography: A diagnostic procedure to visualize the heart vessels (coronary arteries). It is usually performed by inserting a thin tube (catheter) through the groin or wrist.
Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI): The general term for procedures used to treat narrowing or blockages in the coronary arteries.
Coronary Balloon Angioplasty: The use of a balloon catheter to open blocked or narrowed coronary arteries.
Coronary Stent Implantation: Placement of a wire mesh called a stent inside the artery to prevent re-narrowing after opening.
Complex Percutaneous Coronary Interventions: More challenging and specialized coronary procedures such as chronic total occlusion (CTO) opening and left main coronary artery interventions.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI): Replacement of the aortic valve via groin or arm artery access in patients with aortic valve stenosis who cannot undergo surgery.
Mitral Valve Clip: Joining the leaflets of the mitral valve via groin access in patients with mitral valve insufficiency.
Closure of Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD): Interventional closure of congenital holes in the heart.
Closure of Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO): Interventional closure of PFO, which carries risk of stroke.
Left Atrial Appendage Closure: Closing the left atrial appendage in patients with atrial fibrillation and high stroke risk.

Electrophysiological Study (EPS): Examination of the heart’s electrical activity to determine the type and source of an arrhythmia.
Ablation: Burning abnormal electrical pathways or foci causing arrhythmia through catheter ablation.
Pacemaker Implantation: Implantation of a pacemaker (temporary or permanent) to regulate heart rate.
Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD) Implantation: Implantation of an ICD to correct life-threatening arrhythmias.
Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT): Implantation of a CRT device to synchronize heart contractions in patients with heart failure and ventricular dyssynchrony.

Peripheral Angiography and Angioplasty/Stenting: Treatment of narrowing or blockages in vessels supplying the legs, arms, kidneys, and other organs.
Renal Denervation: A method used in the treatment of resistant hypertension.
