Interventional Cardiology Areas of Interest

 

 

Coronary Angiography: A diagnostic procedure to visualize the heart vessels (coronary arteries). It is usually performed by inserting a thin tube (catheter) through the groin or wrist.
Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI): A general term for procedures used to treat narrowing or blockages in the coronary arteries.
Coronary Balloon Angioplasty: Using a balloon catheter to open blocked or narrowed coronary arteries.
Coronary Stent Implantation: Placing a wire mesh called a stent inside the artery to prevent it from narrowing again.
Complex Percutaneous Coronary Interventions: More difficult and specialized coronary procedures such as opening chronic total occlusion (CTO) or interventions on the left main coronary artery.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI): Replacing the aortic valve via the groin or arm artery in patients who cannot undergo surgery for aortic valve stenosis.
Mitral Valve Clipping: Joining valve leaflets via the groin to treat mitral valve insufficiency.
Closure of Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD): Interventional closure of congenital holes in the heart.
Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) Closure: Interventional closure of PFO, which carries a risk of stroke.
Left Atrial Appendage Closure: Closing the left atrial appendage in patients with atrial fibrillation and high stroke risk.

Electrophysiological Study (EPS): Examining the heart's electrical activity and identifying the type and origin of arrhythmia.
Ablation: Destroying abnormal electrical pathways or foci causing arrhythmia by catheter ablation.
