Gynecological Surgical Areas of Interest

As an Obstetrician and Gynecologist, the health of the female reproductive system and the management of the childbirth process are my areas of expertise and primary focus. In cases requiring surgery, I successfully perform various surgical procedures to maintain the health and quality of life of my patients at the highest level.

In this context, the main surgical techniques I apply are as follows:

Laparoscopic Surgery (Minimally Invasive Surgery)
This technique, increasingly used in gynecology, is performed through small incisions in the abdominal area using a camera and instruments.

Applications:

  • Diagnostic laparoscopy (examining the inside of the abdomen for diagnostic purposes)

  • Removal of ovarian cysts

  • Myomectomy (removal of fibroids)

  • Treatment of endometriosis

  • Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus)

  • Ectopic pregnancy treatment

  • Tubal ligation

  • Prolapsed uterus surgeries

Hysteroscopy
A procedure in which the inside of the uterus is examined and treated through a thin camera inserted through the cervix.

Applications:

  • Removal of endometrial polyps

  • Adhesion removal within the uterus

  • Investigation of abnormal uterine bleeding

  • Removal of intrauterine devices (IUD)

Open Surgery
A traditional surgical method performed with a larger incision in the abdominal area.

Applications:

  • Removal of large fibroids

  • Advanced stage cancer surgery

  • Emergency situations (e.g., ruptured ectopic pregnancy)

Cesarean Section
A surgical procedure to deliver a baby through an incision made in the abdomen and uterus.

It is preferred when vaginal delivery is not possible or when there are risks to the mother or baby.

Genital Aesthetic Surgery

  • Labiaplasty (inner labia aesthetics)

  • Vaginoplasty (vaginal tightening)

Obstetrics and Gynecology Screening Tests

Obstetrics and Gynecology Screening Tests

Gynecologists may request various tests to evaluate their patients' overall health, particularly reproductive health, diagnose diseases, and determine appropriate treatment methods. The type of tests requested may vary depending on the patient's complaints, examination findings, and the physician’s clinical assessment.

Some commonly requested tests by gynecologists include:

Gynecological Examination
This is a fundamental procedure that should be performed on every patient. The doctor manually and visually examines your external and internal genital organs (vagina, cervix, uterus, ovaries).

Ultrasonography

  • Transvaginal Ultrasound: This provides a more detailed image of the uterus, ovaries, and other pelvic organs via a probe inserted into the vagina.

  • Abdominal Ultrasound: An ultrasound performed on the abdomen to visualize pelvic organs and issues such as fibroids or cysts in the uterus.

Pap Smear (Smear Test)
A test performed to screen for cervical cancer and detect it early. Cells are taken from the cervix and examined under a microscope.

HPV Test
A test for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) screening. HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer.

Hormonal Evaluation

  • FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone): A hormone that controls ovarian stimulation and egg production.

  • LH (Luteinizing Hormone): A hormone that triggers the ovulation process.

  • Estrogen: Known as the female hormone.

  • Progesterone: Prepares the uterus for pregnancy during the second half of the menstrual cycle.

  • Thyroid Hormones (TSH, T3, T4): Evaluate the function of the thyroid gland.

  • Prolactin: A hormone that stimulates milk production.

  • Testosterone: Known as the male hormone but also found in females.

  • AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone): A hormone that indicates ovarian reserve.

These tests are used to diagnose hormonal imbalances related to menstrual irregularities, infertility, hirsutism (excessive hair growth), and other conditions.

Infection Screening

  • Vaginal Culture: A sample is taken from vaginal discharge to check for fungi, bacteria, or other microorganisms.

  • Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Tests: Tests for infections like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis.

Cancer Screening
The Pap Smear and HPV tests mentioned above are used to screen for cervical cancer.

If necessary, additional blood tests (such as CA-125) may be requested for uterine and ovarian cancer screening.

Pregnancy-Related Tests

  • For pre-pregnancy evaluation, your doctor may request a complete blood count, urinalysis, blood group, and infectious disease screening.

  • During pregnancy, various ultrasound and blood tests (e.g., dual screening, triple screening, quadruple screening) are performed to monitor the health and development of the baby.
