In IVF treatment processes, we, as Obstetrics and Gynecology specialists (gynecologists), rather than directly performing surgical intervention in the treatment, resort to surgical methods in both diagnostic and some treatment stages. These procedures are crucial for determining both female and male infertility causes and for the preparation period of IVF treatment.
Some of the surgical and diagnostic procedures we can perform in this process are as follows:
Hysterosalpingography (HSG)
Hysterosalpingography (HSG): An X-ray imaging technique used to evaluate the condition of the uterus and fallopian tubes. HSG is usually performed by a gynecologist. It is used to check whether the tubes are open before starting IVF treatment.
Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy: A method used to examine the inside of the uterus. It can be performed for diagnosis and treatment of issues such as polyps, fibroids, or adhesions in the uterus. It is used before IVF to assess the uterine cavity and, if necessary, to treat these problems.
Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy: A surgical method used to examine the abdominal cavity and pelvic organs (uterus, ovaries, tubes). It can be performed for diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as endometriosis, tubal blockage, and adhesions. The goal is to resolve these issues before IVF.
Ovum Pick-Up (OPU)
Ovum Pick-Up (OPU): A procedure performed during IVF treatment to collect mature eggs after ovarian stimulation. Under ultrasound guidance, eggs are aspirated from the follicles in the ovaries using a thin needle inserted vaginally. This procedure is performed by gynecologists.
Our clinic offers specialized IVF treatments that include advanced techniques and methods developed to meet the specific needs of some couples during the IVF process. These treatments generally differ from standard IVF procedures, aiming to increase success rates or address particular infertility issues.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
ICSI is a method where a single sperm is directly injected into an egg cell. It is especially used in cases of male factor infertility (low sperm count, motility, or morphology).
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis/Screening (PGT)
PGT involves examining embryos for genetic or chromosomal abnormalities. PGT-M is used to screen for single-gene disorders (e.g., cystic fibrosis), while PGT-A screens for chromosomal abnormalities (e.g., Down syndrome). This method helps select healthy embryos, increasing the chances of success in recurrent IVF failures or for couples who are carriers of genetic diseases.
Assisted Hatching
Assisted hatching is a procedure that thins or opens the outer layer (zona pellucida) of the embryo to help it implant more easily in the uterus.
Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)
FET is the transfer of embryos that were previously created and frozen, then thawed for transfer into the uterus at a later time.
Fresh Embryo Transfer
Fresh embryo transfer refers to transferring embryos created in the same cycle as the egg retrieval.
Culture Systems in IVF Treatment
Different culture systems are used to improve embryo development, such as time-lapse incubators and microfluidic systems.
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
IUI involves placing washed and concentrated sperm from the partner into the uterus after ovulation induction treatment.
